Description
The Corset Busks: Rigid Spine of the Corset
A corset busks are a long, rigid closure device used in the center front of corsets. It provides structure, enables smooth fastening, and maintains a flat, upright front to the garment. Essentially, it’s the backbone of traditional corset construction.
Construction & Materials
- Two Main Parts: Traditionally, a busk consists of two parallel metal or bone strips called “blades.”
- Knobs and Loops: One blade features protruding knobs, and the other has corresponding loops. These interlock to fasten the corset.
- Fabric Encasing: The busk is inserted into a specialized pocket at the center front of the corset, ensuring it sits flush and maintains the proper alignment of the garment.
